Lilac & Lace - Biotayarns carded wool for hand spinning and felting

Lilac & Lace, a carded wool blend, is 100% wool gently harvested from Arthur and Judith's 2024 hogget fleeces.

This Wool blend is created from gently sheared and dyed in the wool BFL x Cheviot fleece raised at Dakota Carding and Wool. After washing & dyeing, the color mix of fibers is then carded on our 3 ton industrial carding mill into this beautiful lavender blue cloud with purple darks and blue highlights.

Pure and simple washing, dyeing and carding of the fibers gives you an easy to draft, open preparation great for spinning a woolen or semi-worsted style yarn. Spinners familiar with commercial combed top, which requires significant predrafting, will likely find this carded preparation easy to spin right from the bag with little or no prep.  This fully carded wool color blend may also be recarded with other exotics and/or pulled through a diz to create a fascimile of roving.

Please remember that colors may appear different on your monitor than in real life. Every effort has been made to convey the colors in my photos as the fiber blend appears to me in person. Photos are taken in natural daylight without any color effects. I card many pounds of fiber blend colorways, some variation between batches will exist, similar to dye lots in yarn.

This 4 oz. bag is enough wool to make a hat, mittens or cowl.  When planning to make a larger sweater item, I like to weigh a favorite sweater to get a good idea of how much wool it will take to make a similar size sweater. I would spin this carded wool blend as a fine singles yarn, and then ply it to create a fine fingering or jumper weight 2 ply yarn. This blend would also spin bulky as the staple length of the fibers is 4-5 inches and may easily be drafted slowly with a low amount of twist.
